oh boy...

Do you start actual work or just orientation? We have ACLS this Tuesday and Wednesday, orientation Thursday and Friday. We don't actually start on the job until next Monday (June 24). The chief told me today that I will be starting with one of my three radiology rotations first. It'll be good to ease back into the groove. I'll find out tomorrow what all my rotations will be and when.
The closer it gets, the more nervous I get. Those first few call nights as a resident are gonna be pretty nerve racking. Good luck tommorrow.

I still have 3 days until the pelvic teaching session (1/2 day).
Then I have BLS on Tues the 25th. Orientation the 26-27. Actually start July 1 doing Gyn-Onc (the hardest rotation of the 1st year).

We finished ATLS today, start ACLS tomorrow, orient, and then get thrown to the wolves (uh, I mean, go to the surgical wards) on Friday afternoon. And I don't even know where I'm going yet...we have *no* assignment schedule. None . Fortunately, this sort of informational constipation was common at my med school too. Otherwise I'd have an ulcer so big it'd be threatening to chew through my pancreas.

Good luck to everyone starting their internship! Please try to stop by when you get a chance and let us know how things are going. As you make the transition, any final words of advice for us MS4s about how best to make use of our $30,000 year-long vacation?

I guess I'm lucky--still have 5 more days of anxiety before I start....Advice for 4th year-things I wish I'd realized about 4th year a little earlier-Find some research to be a part of-basic science or clinical. Electives that involve teaching 1st and 2nd year med students are excellent for helping you develop confidence and teaching skills. If you hear that a rotation is a waste of time, trust your classmates and drop it or switch. There's nothing worse than spending 40 hours a week on a complete waste of time. (But those are good ones if you're just looking for lots of time off.) It probably varies from school to school which rotations those are. For us, it was radiology, pathology, and just about any outpatient subspecialities.
Don't schedule any rotations with call or evening/weekend hours after January or so or you'll be kicking yourself.
