Why does Ohio State's Optometry school have soo many more re-req classes then any of the other schools? I wanted to go to that school, but the amount of classes I would have to take would take me forever and cost me too much money to complete. I have since looked into other schools. Is anyone else having the same problem?

I'm pretty sure Berkeley has the most pre-reqs actually. I feel like more schools are heading towards that trend. Just goes to show the increase in competitiveness over time. Different programs also have different curriculum. If they require it as a pre-req, it is a possibility that the material will be only breifly covered in first year, if at all.

If money is a concern, i do recommmend taking pre-rereqs at community college. just make sure the courses transfer and be aware if your opto school of choice has certain views about cc classes.

Did you even look at Ohio State's requirements? Ohio State has way more than Berkley.

The only difference I can see is that OSU wants 15 quarter units of physics (which is like...1 year + 1 quarter of physics..I think the conversion is stupid), and they want Trig/geometry. But they probably accept that from highschool. And OSU doesn't seem to require physiology lab in conjunction with the lecture. The rest of it seems very standard.

I went to an undergrad institution on the semester system and only had to take two semesters of physics. I didn't even think about trig/geometry - then again I took precalculus my freshman year. I really didn't take any other classes to satisfy OSU's pre-req requirements; my biology degree sufficed. Maybe you didn't get started on classes in your major soon enough?
