For all you yet uncommitted pre-dents I just wanted to give you a heads up on recent developements at OHSU. Recently, a major court decision abolishing the cap on the amount of money that people can sue for regarding malpractice was passed. This has prompted a MAJOR restructuring of financial affairs at OHSU...this translates to major budget cuts. This means that many of the nice things you have heard about the new "integrated" curriculum, new facilities, or other stuff likely may not be there when you get there. There is talk about shutting down or outsourcing the new fitness center, cutting faculty and merging basic science classes with the med school, and raising tuition up to 25%. Believe me, OHSU will NOT tell you any of this unless you ask them. We did not find out about the new curriculum, $4500 increase in tuition, in addition to the normal tuition increase until about a month before classes started. Far to late to go anywhere else. So what I am saying is do your research with this school, and make sure you pry out of them exactly everything you want to know, AND prepare yourself for the unexpected as to your tuition and nature of your basic science classes. If you need any more information, just google about OHSU and budget crisis or "tort cap" decision and follow the trail. I never check back here, so you'll probably have to do the research on your own, but just thought I'd shed some light, as I'm still a little bitter about the lack of information that we were supplied with last year prior to major curriculum changes and tuition increases. Good luck to all wherever you go. Bottom line is, D-school is what you make of it, no matter where you go.
