OK question to ask current student?

Is it ok to ask a current student at the school I'm really interested in for advice about if they like letters of interest/intent? I just don't want to be breaking any rules when it comes to what we're allowed to ask students!!

I guess I just don’t want to come across as trying to get a “back door” look into admissions? Especially if it’s someone I’m connecting to through the admissions office (as in I don’t know them personally)

It's no problem to ask this, but unless they are involved in the admissions process they almost certainly will not know the answer.
