Ok to send in-the-area letter if I'm not THAT far away to begin with?

I go to a school within a 4-hour drive of NYC. I recently got an interview at a NY school, and applied to several other NY-area schools. Would an "in the area" letter not be appropriate in this case since I'm not traveling, say, halfway across the country to attend this interview? Or is it still okay to send such a letter? Don't want to annoy the admissions committee!

They see your mailing address, so they know where you live. Then an "in-area-letter" would just be stating the obvious.

I vote don't do it, as they'll probably be annoyed by it.

Even if 4 hours isn't really an easy trip for me?

Wut... Most people had to make 3+ hour trips to their colleges to visit home and then another 3+ hour trip back to college. Its kind of the normal.

Being in a professional setting, they expect you to be able to at least handle that much (probably even more to be honest).

Am I reading this right? Is a resident of NY asking whether he should send an in the area email to a NY school? Please, for the love of god, do this and post their response.

No, I go to school in another state.

If I live in the suburbs can I send an ITA letter to a school downtown??
