Realistically, the motivation and drives that are pushing me to get into medical school are the same, regardless of which type of medical school accepts me. Is it necessary to have two different PS if you're applying to both allo and osteo? I understand the character difference (5,300 v. 4,500) but a few friends that have applied this past cycle told me to do use the same PS and that it's not a big deal.

Is this normal? Is this okay? I'd love to hear @Goro @LizzyM and other stellar SDN mentors opinions on this.

We don't take it personally when people take their MD PS and simply insert "osteopathic "in front of the word doctor.

I used virtually the same essay for both. It makes your life easier if you start with the AACOMAS version, since making it longer if you want will be easier than making it shorter. Starting with the MD version, subtracting 800 characters, and saying something about osteopathic schools would be tricky.

Probably wise to include something about "Why DO" in the AACOMAS version, but it sounds like the wise @Goro doesn't expect any dramatic changes. Just follow the also-wise advice of @LizzyM and make sure your AMCAS essay doesn't contain the word "osteopathic" before you submit.

How would we even know you were using the same one? Just be sure to edit out "osteopathic" if you start with the AACOMAS essay and then expand it for your AMCAS.

Thank you all!
