Did anyone apply to OK? Does anyone know where they are on their admissions responses, interviews, etc.

I applied (out of state) and in the application madness I didn't realize that they didn't interview out of state people. The offical info on their website says "out of state applicants are not required to interview," which I took to mean that it was an option, but rather in fact they just don't do it.

I know they require the GRE Bio test to be complete, which they let you wait til Dec to take so it sounds like they'd have to be sort of late relative to other school in getting back to applicants.

Since I'm being judged on paper alone, I'm wondering how much the GRE Bio score counts...their average for the last 2 years was something like a 540, which is really low IMO. My score was beyond significantly better than that so I'm hoping it counts for something.

If anybody has any info on OK I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

Interviews start tomorrow (Thursday 2/23). The actual score on GRE Bio isn't supposed to matter, just that you took it and didn't completely bomb it. I don't think I even looked at my bio score. Overall stats are pretty low for acceptance into Oklahoma state, pretty much because it's almost no one's first choice unless they are in state. Which I don't really get, but if that meant it was easier for me to get in, that's fine with me. They do notify pretty late. I don't remember when I got notified that I was on the alternate list, but it was June before I knew I was accepted.

any word?

I'm not sure if this was to me or just in general...

I called them last Monday I think...and they said they're getting envelopes ready and that they should be mailing answers (yes/no/alternate) in a week....so I think they're mailing letters right now.

Bumping this...

Anybody heard anything?.....I don't see anyone on the acceptance thread....

Just wondering...

Well, I got my letter that I'm on OK's alternate list today....Which b/c they do not interview non-residents really surprised me. 🙂

It doesn't seem like anyone here knows that much about OK, but I'll post my question anyway: In my letter there is a line which in effect says "we can't tell you what your alternate rank is, but we'd like you to know that it is closely equivalent with those being asked for admissions"

Should I take this as a "I will probably get taken off the alernate list," or is this just something that everyone on the alternate list gets...

Anyone ever heard of different types of alternate lists being sent out?

Any info is great. Thanks!

i got my acceptance letter on monday! i find it vaguely worrying that it said in the letter that they send out more acceptances than they have spots (for out of state applicants) :-/ so i think im going to send my "yes" with $500 asap, since i wont hear from my home state (UF) until next week :-/ good luck to everyone else!

Any OK students here? How do you like it?

The official VMCAS deadline for making deposits is April 17th, if they are pressuring you to make a decision before then, it is "illegal" in the eyes of the AAVMC. You are under no obligation to make a decision before then and you can't lose your spot. Most schools offer more acceptances than spaces to out of state students because they expect that a lot of those students will end up at their state schools or even other out of state schools. I know, for example, that Illinois offers up to 100 out of staters spots but only expects 20-25 of them to actually end up at UIUC (according to their info session at the interviews last year). Point being, you should be perfectly fine waiting until you hear from UF next week and there is no reason to lose your money at OK if you end up going to UF.

When I spoke to OK, and in my letter, it said that they gave the first-round offers folks til April 17th...so you should be fine waiting to send in money untill then.

BTW...did you tour there at all? I'm madly trying to get over there to tour even though I'm only on the alternate list. Any input/suggestions?

I havn't toured there at all! I'm waiting to here from UF and if they reject me i'm *definitely* going to plan a visit to Stillwater to get a better feel for the University. I thought we were going to have to interview there, but when it turned out we didn't have to, I figured I would save my money visiting until later.

That's what I thought too...I remember it said something like "non-residents are not required to interview"....which I thought meant that you could, but weren't penalized if you didn't .....I'm *really* surprised I made on the alternate list w/o an interview...

Good luck getting into UF (So I can get into OK! 😉 )

Hey,

I'm an undergrad student in my freshman year. I have foal team at the large animal vet facilities and I have been to the teaching hospital. I really like it and everyone is extremely helpful in answering questions. If you are worried you could talk to Dr. Meinkoth. I think she is the one in charge of admissions.
Just a thought. But if you need any information on Okstate feel free to leave me a message
