Congratulations to everyone who has received acceptances thus far.

I was accepted to both Ohio State and University of Oklahoma. 😀 I'm having a hard time making a final decision regarding which to attend. Any opinions/advice? (I am OOS for both schools)

Thanks! And best of luck to everyone!

I'd say OSU, but I'm a little biased. I honestly know nothing about Oklahoma. Did one school leave a better impression on interview day?

Which one is cheaper?

Ha that is funny. I got accepted to both schools as well with OK being home state. They are so incredibly similar...

Basically...

OSU
College atmosphere that you can rarely get from anywhere else (Penn has this as well.
The state has expanded function dental assist (dont know if you want that)
In state tuition....this is big one.
Ohio..cold

OU
Slightly more technically advanced.
Oklahoma...hot..cold. hot ...cold super unpredictable.

Both school focus a ton on clinical.
Big football team.
Anything that i am missing is similar enough that I dont remember lol

IMO
Big differences:

  • OSU has in state tuition after the first year
  • OSU is on the main campus (YAY!), but OU is on south side/ the downtown area away from the main campus.
  • OK has more strict rules on "mid-level" practitioners. I think Ohio lets RDH or DA's fix fillings (but not drill on the tooth).
  • OSU is going to be COLD, but OK is going to be mood-swing weather (two weeks ago? it was 80 one day, and 30 the next)
Both are going to have:

  • super nice people
  • awesome clinical focus
  • cheap living environment!
  • low cost (comparatively)
  • say they are moving to digital records 😛

Lol thx for repeating everything i said...

Selfishly I'd say choose Ohio... that's because I'd like to get in to OU and I don't know how far they are moving down the list (I have a family and don't want to move them)

Just Kidding... congrats on your acceptance!

I can give you some insight into Oklahoma. OU will be transitioning into almost a year 'round curriculum within the next year. This will mean that you will take the same credit hours as the DS1s do now (26ish), but you'll have the classes spread out more which will allow for less cramming and more learning. The change will also bring test blocks as compared to the scattered tests that the DS1s have everyday. Ask some of them about 'red october' 🙂. As well, this new program will incorporate a lot more clinical time into the curriculum (as if OU didn't already have a whole lot of chair time). Furthermore, OU has informed us that they will be fully digital within the next 18months.

The location of the school allows you to live pretty much anywhere as the max commute time will be 20 mins. Plus, its within 5 blocks of bricktown. And you will love that on those friday afternoons after a biochem exam.

What are the pass rates for boards at OSU?

I feel pass rate should be irrelevant as they are all about the same. If you fail it is not because the school failed you it is because you did not study!

does anyone know if you can get gain state residency for tuition purposes in oklahoma?

Pick the school with the hotter girls 😉 Congrats man!

Thanks for posting everyone. You have been a great help. I'm going to try and make a final decision by the end of next week so that I'm not holding two spots for no reason. Thanks again!

you mean the cupcake bar at OSU didn't win you over?!?

GO Bucks!!

No you cannot get residency status (unless you are military). I know of bunch of folks who have been through OU medical and dental and they confirm this.
