I heard that Cornell's dean used to call and tell students they were admitted on Christmas day. I was just wondering if this has happened in the past two years? Do they even call people anymore?

I can't speak to whether or not this is an established tradition, but I can tell you that I have a good friend who is currently a 4th year, and she received her acceptance call from the dean on New Year's Eve (during the daytime hours, of course). She was accepted during the 05-06 application cycle for fall 2006 matriculation. Beyond that I don't know, but wouldn't that be the greatest Christmas present ever?! (Cornell is my IS.)

That would totally make me believe in Santa all over again!
(I'm IS too...yay New York!)

Would kinda suck if you were Jewish. I mean it would never suck, but you know what I mean.

That would be so cool! Although if they did the same with rejections, I'm sure there would be many broken hearts on Christmas day.

"Hello?"
"Is this XXX?"
"Yes."
"Well, this is the Dean of Admissions for Cornell Vet school, and, uh, well, just thought I'd tell you you didn't get in."
"........."
"Merry Christmas! Bye!"

YES! Exactly what I was thinking... except the conversation went along the lines of:

"Hi this is the Dean of Admissions for Cornell Vet. May I speak with ____?"
"THIS IS SHE!!!" (like half squealing cause why else would the dean call on Christmas!?)
"Oh... well... I'm sorry to get you all excited, but I was calling to let you know that you've been bad and naughty all year so you deserve a lump of coal. Be better next year! Ho ho ho"
