Verified UG cGPA = 3.36, sGPA = 3.57
UCSD MS Biology GPA 3.97
MCAT 11V, 11P, 13B, = 35O

1 Semester tutoring at CC biology
7 quarters teaching upper division physiology courses and labs
4 years of research as a UG, Graduate, and Staff Research Associate in Physio Lab at SOM
ABSOLUTELY NO volunteer experience, (had to work)

I applied MD last cycle super late, probably didnt get verified until mid September. Don't have a nonsci LOR. I didnt receive any interviews and am not sure if its because of timing or because of glaring lack of volunteer. Any advice?

Dude AMCAS is open now. Tick tock tick tock. Get your app done right now, and get a volunteer gig right now. Have some clinical volunteering experiences to talk about when you interview.

"Had to work" my fanny. Visit the nontrad forum and let the mommies and daddies who work full time and do volunteering on the side show you how it's done.

Best of luck to you.

Sounds like it was both. I've seen posts by people with great numbers like yours in the same fix.

You have to show us that you know what you're getting into, and that you know what a doctor's life is like. Would you buy a new car without test driving it? Buy a new suit or dress without trying it on?? You also need to show your humanistic altruistic side.

So, STRONGLY suggest that you get some type of volunteeer work in. It doesn't all have to be hospital based. Think clinics, hospice, nursing homes.

And once that's done, apply early!

I'm pretty sure it's your lack of clinical experience. A couple schools I interviewed at said they won't even invite people to interview if they have no clinical experience. Your ugrad cgpa is too low and I don't know how much a regular masters redeems that. An smp with a connection to a med school or a post bacc would have better served you. Your MCAT is sky high though but I'm not sure that's enough with a low undergrad gpa. I'd apply broadly to both low and mid tier md schools and the more established do schools. I think you need to take a year off to get some good clinical experience.
