Hello,

Has anyone heard of Our Lady of the Lake College in Baton Rouge, LA?

Does anyone attend this school? How are is the Human Medicine program? What about Biology? Are the instructors top-notch? Any chance for research?

Any info would be appreciated...

I'm no authority but I've certainly heard of it...

My only knowledge is of their nursing school...which seems fine. Their students rotate through the hospital where I worked/volunteered.

I don't know anything about their instructors or programs otherwise. However, with LSU and Pennington Biomedical Research Center nearby I'd question how many research opportunities exist there...purely speculation, though.

OLOL has offered nursing for decades, started an associate degree program maybe in 1990 and started offering Bachelor's in the late '90's. It's primarily an "allied health" and nursing school as I understand it.

I'm sure you've checked www.ololcollege.edu

They do have some affiliation/relationship with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. This is the major treatment facility in the area and there are definitely research opportunities there.

Good luck...I'm sure there are some nurse alumns or former employees lurking here.

I live in Baton Rouge, and know of OLOL. It's a good hospital, nice facilities. BUT, I have talked to students in nursing school there who are unhappy with a recent change in curiculum/administration. I think the concern was that the focus was no longer on the students. But, i have also talked to another girl who was very happy there.

I second LSUwannabe's comments about research -- I doubt there is any clinical research with Pennington down the road. (www.pbrc.edu)

I work at OLOL as a Respiratory Therapist(since 1999). The OLOL college is forever expanding. This year they added a PA program and a CRNA program. The PA program is at the OLOL-NO campus. I know plenty of RN students & grads that were happy with it. Some of my friends that grad from there..then got BSN or other bach degrees are also applying to med school. They only complain about the "private"''' school price as oppoed to their friends that have TOPS(free tuition) at LSU-BR. OLOL College just started a 10month accelerated RN program. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the replies guys...

Yep, I'm wondering about those "other " prorams.
