Does anyone have some more information about what the career prospects for OMF radiology is looking like? How competitive is that specialty? Salaries in private practice? Ive heard rumor that MD radiologist have staffed them in their own private practice. Are all specialties paid about the same in academia?
I wouldnt think that they were. Any pro's and con's which you could think of when comparing this to other specialties? Thanks!!

I never understood how this became a bonafide specialty when you have to demonstrate a need to become a specialty. I read my own xrays and CT scans. In my hospital we never even look at the MD radiologists' read because we can see the fractures/pathology ourselves. Maybe they could help in MRIs on some obscure pathology, but that's extremely rare.

I would think from the internet sites that I have read that people with this specialty work the imaging center at dental schools, teaching students and handling complex cases from private practice gp's and specialist.. I read something about complex imaging being needed/preferred for dental implants and the growth in this specialty will come from the whole baby boomer epidemic...also some ortho.

Radiology is for people who want to teach or do research. Period.
