OMFS Class Rank Issue

Hey everyone.

Just finished up my D1 year a few weeks ago. I have like a 3.89 gpa through the first year. Had a couple classes I probably should have gotten As in, but I thought the year went as well as it probably could have.

I thought I was okay until my buddy who has a 3.99 gpa asked for his class rank. He has had one B+ and is ranked 25th in the class out of 75. I worked my butt off and am probably sitting at 50th in my class out of 75 people.

With me wanting to do oral surgery and beginning to study for the CBSE, do I really have any chance in making it?

Class rank and GPA isn’t as weighted as CBSE score because some schools are pass/fail. You’re fine and still have a number of years to fluctuate in rank and GPA.

Everybody gets good grades their first year of dental school, and then they slowly start to trend down. As long as you keep yours near where it is at, I wouldn’t worry about it all.

CBSE is way more important than GPA/class rank and it’s not even close.

everyone tries pretty hard D1 year until D2 kicks your butt and people realize they just want to pass and get through. D2 is where you can make up some ground

You're fine. It really doesn't matter all that much, relatively speaking. Just do well on the CBSE and be respectful/sociable during your interviews and you'll match. Good luck.
