OMFS: How much does undergrad matter?

Curious, do OMFS programs really select candidates based on their undergraduate grades?? I have been told its something that the medical school insists for in 6yr programs. However I am focusing on apps to 4yrs, but it seems as though they all ask for it.

I have mid 90's on Part I, in the top 10% and my dental school gpa is 3.7ish. The part that bothers me is that my undergrad grades arent spectacular by any means, seeing as how I did my ug in Canada and that too in Chem. 👎

If any current residents had some insights that they could share that would be fantastic.

Every med school has a different deal set up with it's OMFS program. Some of them never even see your grades and really have no say in who they take. My program only requires that you score 90 or greater on part 1 dental boards. When I externed at Mayo I was told that the med school focuses mainly on undergrad and ignores your dental school accomplishments, and that they reject a few people every year.

Try to find some of my posts in this topic, it was well discussed. Both of your numbers in dental school are higher than mine and I can assure you that my UG GPA is much lower than yours. You'll get interviews, no worries.

No, you don't need your bachelor degree. I don't have mine and it was never even asked by medical schools or OMFS in interviews.
