When you're applying to OMFS jobs out of residency for a private practice, is it expected that whoever is interviewing you fly you out and pay for your hotel? I was not sure what the etiquette is. My boyfriend is in business and he thinks that is expected, but I didn't get any offers to pay for my ticket or reimbursement to fly out to meet the partners in person. I don't want to come across rude, but I'm not sure whats normal and if that's something I should ask for. Any thoughts for someone that's already gone through the interview process after residency?

It’s not a given, but a lot will offer. I think i interviewed at 8-9 places in chicago and maybe 3-4 offered. They’re probably more likely to offer the worse the location.

50% of my interviewers offered to fly me out

thank you for your feedback! for those that didn't offer did you ever ask if they offered any reimbursements?

No, i knew the chances of me taking some of them were extremely low…so i didn’t feel right asking them to cover a flight when there was such a small change of me signing.
thank you for your response! this was very helpful.

Were these places more remote? Academia position?
I don’t imagine a practice in NYC will fly out someone if they have people flocking to join their practice, would they?

If your employer is worth their salt; they will offer to fly you in, book your hotel and show you around town. And this is for a GP...for an OS I would imagine the carpet rollout would be greater.

Both in large metro areas, neither of which were academic positions.
