Question from a future applicant: Why do some programs go unmatched? Surely, applicants interviewed at these programs and ranked them. Were these programs too picky and didn't rank enough applicants? I'm confused how this happens given the numerous applicants who don't match.

Either the program didn't interview/rank enough applicants or all the applicants got into a higher rank on their list. The spot will usually get filled during post-match anyway.
