I wanted to buy either the Peterson's OMFS book or Fonseca's. Any suggestion on which one is a better buy? is Fonseca's new edition better than the old one?
thanks.

I actually have both (and Fonseca's trauma book). I figure I should read them both anyhow, although it is lots of cash they should be available for me to reference.

Peterson's is a good basic review.

Peterson's is a good general review but has a lot of editorial mistakes. The new Fonseca is great and has a ton more info, but it is obviously a lot bigger. I would buy Fonseca hands down no questions asked. However for a good quick review the Peterson is good too.

Synthes is offering the new Fonseca series for free thru their new "Resident Program". Our rep just gave us a list of books which we got to choose 1 book from. I'm pretty sure the Fonseca was on there. Ask your rep about it.

Was that one book per resident, or one book for the residency. Also that new Fonseca is 3 books, so does that count as one book or 3 books?

1 book/resident and that includes all books in the series. Problem is, I can't remember if it was the Fonseca Trauma or the new edition.

I think it's the new one. Don't you have to earn 600 points or so on their online quizzes to get this one?

Haven't taken any quiz's but I know what you're talking about. Pretty cool website. Anyways, maybe they are trying to bribe us into giving them business? Either way, can't complain with free books.

What's up with there only being 570 possible points. Fonseca requires 600. Anyone know anything about these learning workshops?

I just noticed the same thing about the points. Anyone have the Medina Atlas? I've heard mixed things about it.

Our rep puts on a learning workshop yearly for us/ENT/Plastics. Sawbone plating etc...

I would go with Fonseca but the 20 year is much fuller and smoother than the 10 IMHO

Our Synthes rep was able to credit an additional 100 points if we attended the workshop he administered. It is definitely a nice gift to receive from Synthes.
