OMFS specific question!

Well working away from the hospital give you the opportunity to be a practice owner. My past research on this also told me that you will make more money in private practice vs a hospital setting. Otherwise the work can be quite similar.

What tends to be the differences when it comes to working at a hospital and an oral surgeon working at a private office?
Dentalalveolar and implants vs. generally more invasive and large scale procedures. Hospital has a team approach to large cases like cancer. Private practice is usually solo practice and lots of 3rds, implants, expose and bonds, etc. That being said, Omfs in hospital do dentalalveolar as well but in trauma sense for odontogenic cases. There's more to be said, but also to note that you can hold hospital privileges while in private practice.

There are both 4 and 6 year OMFS programs (the 6 year offers an MD). You can work in a hospital through either program.
