I was supposed to take DAT yesterday but I felt really sick on the way. I was driving and suddenly felt pain in my stomach.. I managed to get near the testing center but I couldn't move out of the car b/c my stomach was killing me.
As a result, I missed my DAT and I feel like my life is over. I know I have to wait another 3 months to retake or really "take" DAT and this basically means that I wont get in this year (too late). Is it possible to reschedule DAT without waiting 3 months since I didnt actually take DAT? My eligibility will be expired in this Aug. I am going to call ADA now but I am very scared to hear what they are going to say..

Please help

don't worry explain your situation...they will let you retake since you didnt really take the DAT....hasnt happened this with me but i am guessing they will let you.

I think so too... You didn't really take it. They will probably just penalize you monetarily.

As most have already pointed out, you probably will be allowed to reschedule without waiting the three months. However, even if that were NOT the case, you could still take the DAT at the end of August. What's the worry?

If you didn't signed at the testing center, then you didn't take the test. But since you already paid the fee, and missed the date you will have to repay the test fee. Which sucks, but I am sure you can b*tch to some manager at the ADA and get your fee reduced so you don't have to pay as much to finally take the exam.
If you would have gone to the Dr's office and obtained a note this would collaborate your story and maybe you wouldn't have to pay the fee, but I don't know.

Just call and talk to a manager at the ADA, and try to get a fee reduction, but you shouldn't have to wait the 3 months.

They gave me a disclaimer when I scheduled it saying that you would have to pay full price to take the DAT if you cancelled in less than even a given amount of time before the exam. Hopefully they will be accommodating. Too bad the DAT fee doesn't transfer because I paid $175 intending to retake it and never ended up having the need to. Good luck.

I think you'll be fine; I took my DAT in October and still was accepted to schools. Even if you would have to wait another 3 months (which I doubt you do), my opinion is that you'll be okay.

i wouldn't freak out too much about it. i took my dat the for the first time last july, but wanted to raise my pat. i had to wait 3 months, so i retook it in october and got into dental schools for the 2007 cycle. so even if you take it in august you'd be fine. make sure to send in your apps asap though, before you even take your test! good luck!! 🙂

I just got off the phone and I have a good news. ADA told me that since I didn't take DAT I can re-register without waiting 3 months, paying full amount again which I don't mind at my situation..But I am not sure how fast I can take DAT.
From my experience, it took a while to register and to schedule the exam.
I really need to take DAT within a week or 2 weeks..because I am applying to Aussie and England dental schools and My DAT score has to be there by end of June or first week of July..Do you think this is impossible?

just be open about testing centers. while the one you want might not be available, there'll probably one you can drive to 2hrs away that's open. therefore you should be able to take it pretty soon 😉

In my experience with grad schools (probably the same as dental school, but no guarantee), the admissions committees are generally willing to accept unofficial scores to make the deadline, as long as you immediately send the official scores. If you can't take the DAT until the end of June/early July, the Aussie and English dental schools will still receive your official scores long before they actually make a decision, even if not by the official application deadline.

I'd definitely contact them -- they probably won't accept, "But lgwdnbdgr said!" as an excuse, but I'd imagine there is a good chance they'll be understanding. (That said, try to schedule earlier so this is a moot point; I'm just saying all hope is not necessarily lost if you can't reschedule in the next two weeks)

I just wanted to confirm that if you don't sit down at the computer and agree to some policy form when you start the DAT, it doesn't count as having taken the test. I was a big ***** and forgot to check the expiration date on my license. Didn't have my passport near by, so couldn't take the test. I have to go through the ADA confirmation thing, wait, and reschedule, but it was no problem.

So, if you miss the test or can't take it (or just try to reschedule within 48 hours I think of the test), you just reapply. No worries, unless you're in a rush.

you can schedule and take it next week if there is an opening. the DAT is very stressful so before i took it i was very nervous that day and i wasn't feeling well.
