Be happy for your friend. Why rain down on her parade? If she is happy going to dental assisting school, then let her be happy. We need to put envy and pride away. We need to be humble. If your friend is excited about going to dental assisting school, that is nothing to look down upon. Be happy for her and encourage her.

You guys through that waaaay out of proportion. I wasn't making fun, belittling, or downing her. The ONLY reason why I came on to ask this question is because I thought I would get some good advice on what to do. I actually thought she didn't know what she was getting herself into. I couldn't say nothing. It has nothing to do with me being better or me not being happy for her. I actually ended up privately messaging her and she told me what she meant and what she was doing. AGAIN, I AM HAPPY FOR HER. Thanks for the "help".

Nooooo...I meant exactly what I said. I couldn't just say nothing. If these are the future dentists then I truly worry about the future of dentistry. This is just what this profession needs..more mean, cold, and bitter dentist. Now that IS sad. I come with love and some of you criticize me for being "mean" while you attempt to attack my character and you don't even know me. This is the internet though so I am not surprised that some people want to be rude just because you're not standing in my face. Some of you really need to reevaluate the way you treat others.

Ahh, in that case, it would be "I had to say something." Yes, some people are being mean on here, and I am not one of them. I am not a hater, but rather a lover of grammar, and you will be too once your write your personal statement. Secondly, the whole Facebook travesty will clear up in 9 months once your friend gets her certificate as a dental assistant, not as a dentist. I, too, don't like people putting everyone in the dental field on the same playing field because we've all worked really hard to get here. However, in the end, it only matters that I know I'm a dentist, and that the National Board of Dentistry knows I'm a dentist.

OP, it's great that you're voicing your beliefs. Just be aware that not everyone comes from the same background and what you may think is appropriate might not bode well with someone else. And when that happens, others might voice their beliefs too, sometimes rather rudely or harshly. That's when you have to just let bygones be bygones, which I believe translates roughly to "haters gonna hate."

Lol I work at the hospital. Teaching hospital. I was talking to the med students (3rd 4th year). I told them yeah I decided to do dentistry instead of medicine. "Ohh you must have had a lower gpa". One of them actually said this…really awkward thing to say to someone and not the case. I told them "actually i thought long and hard about the decision. Dentistry was a great fit and I can't wait". They really are on a high horse and definitely didn't respect dentistry from my experiences.

Because that experience speaks for all physicians everywhere. I went to med school and have nothing but respect for my dental counterparts. Really, I just get more annoyed when they send patients over to make decisions that I know they are trained to do...mostly because it is unfair for the patient. That isn't all or even most, but it happens.

Anyway, I'm going into radiology and have similar stuff happen with people becoming radiology technicians. I used to get irritated but then I realized that they can think whatever they want, because it is a waste of energy, they like what they are doing, I enjoy my area and I will be taking home about 5x the pay for playing "Where's Waldo?"
