"At this time you have been placed in a 'hold' category. This means you have not been invited for an interview. However, your file will be reviewed again throughout the year."

I got this letter from DMU yesterday. I know what being on hold means, but I don't know what it means at DMU. Do they put most applicants on hold until they fill the class, or are some people's applications rejected at this point? Just wondering if it's worth it to update my appliation file there.

they must love to do that cause I got one of those letters back in september... still haven't heard a peep

did you get interview invite. I was on hold and I got interview invite. Does this mean I still have good chances?

First-Year Class Matriculants’
Self-Reported Race/Ethnicity:
Percentages are based on self-reported data and
therefore may not equal 100%.
American Indian or Alaska Native: <1%
Asian: 20%
Black or African American: <1%
Hispanic/Latino: 2%
White: 77%
Pacific Islander: 0%
Other/No Answer: 0%

97% white or Asian, <1% black, definitely don't want to be the only black guy in class. I guess Asian counts as diversity.
And not true. lol

I always thought diversity = not white. But i mean it's whatever, if you don't think you would be comfortable there..

well, 3% urm overall black, Hispanic, and native american
You probably will not encounter many AA in med school no matter where you go unless you go to one of the HBCU schools... I don't remember seeing many med schools (MD/DO) with >7% AA in their student body.

True, but I have heard some stories where people being open about sexual orientation during interviews helped spark interest from adcoms. There may not be quotas for it, but OP makes it sound like DMU is nothing more than 300 white Christian males, and I don't buy that. Sometimes you have to dig a little deeper to find diversity.

Iowa yo. Corn & whities XD
