Is anybody's application on HOLD for SUNY Upstate? What are the chances of getting in after they've placed you on HOLD? What is your stat if you are on HOLD?

My Stats:
GPA: 3.48
Science GPA: 3.6
MCAT: PS 11 VR 5 (I bombed this part dammit) BS 10 Total 26M
1 year of research at my school's neurobiology lab
plenty of volunteering experiences but no actual clinical experience
RESIDENT OF NY

Will I get into med school with a 5 VR? I know I suck in English please don't stress that point THANKS!

A five definitely throws up a red flag, and your writing score isn't too hot either. But the SUNY's seems to be sympathetic towards in-state students so theres always a chance. Just need to wait it out now. Good luck

I would hazard a guess that you will have very poor chances with a 5 on the VR. I agree that SUNY Upstate is a very sympathetic school, but there are tons of applicants with a much more balanced 26 or better...and VR seems to carry some sort of extra merit in the eyes of some.

I'd say go straight to the source. Try to get a hold of Jennifer Welch, the Director of Admissions. I think she's reachable via phone, and she's been great responding by email. I called her after getting my MCAT score to see if she thought I'd be competitive; I interviewed there on 9/13.

Good luck.
