On Hold at UMich...

As of 8/23/05 my U of M status page says "Your file is under review. Reviews may take up to several months and could include some "on hold" time while we compare files of groups of applicants. You can view the checkboxes on this screen to see which of your materials we have received (allow 3 weeks for delivery and recording of materials you have sent). If you took the August MCAT, reviews are likely to begin in November and December." Does that mean my file is on hold or that after this review it could be placed on hold? What did other people's hold messages say?

Will UMich notify the applicant if this status changes, or do I constantly check the website to find out if the status has changed?

maybe this should be a new thread, but has anyone been rejected from mich already? i'm asking because i am suspicious that anyone not invited for interview at this time is just put on hold.

the blurb about being on hold said the file has been preliminarily reviewed and an interview decision has not been reached yet.

I called Umich and the lady said a ton of people are put on hold after the initial review.

No I don't think so. According to the site if they ask you for that stuff they are thinking about interviewing you. So that's good news. They asked for those things from all of us currently on hold. After that we were "under review" and now "on hold"

Yeah TI it kind of bothers me too haha but I think we're okay since the Adcom lady said the majority are put "on hold" after a prelim review. I'm guessing only the people with ridic stats get an interview after the prelim. After all it is a prelim review so they probably didn't go too in depth into our files.

Ya, I have this feeling it may be like I have heard this magic number 70 of thiers. Of course I am just making up reasons to make me feel better, but who knows could be gpa*10+mcat if above 70 get an interview because online it does say prelim screening. Plus that was way too fast to actually look at my file i figure. From aug 3rd to aug 9th. I just don't believe they could get through as many unless they looking at just numbers.

It's prolly not 70 because I saw someone else on hold that had like a 37 and a 3.7. So how about 80? haha

You are emailed the link. The status check there after they send you the link for the secondary.

Naw. Your application is "Complete" once you submit your secondary and LORs. THEN, the Adcom will take an initial review of your file.

I'm on hold, too... kinda sucks, but eventually had to happen.

According to the site and April, who works in the office, less than half of applicants are asked to send in LORs to complete their app.

6/10 -- I had my email account filter all .EDU emails into a folder, so I doubt
that it ended in the trash as spam. I'll call admissions on Monday.
