Hi guys: Im starting to panic now!! I called a couple schools, and 4 schools told me that they've completed reviewing my application, but didn't decide to give me an interview nor reject me. So basicly, im on "hold", whatever that means.

Does anybody actually get off this "hold" status and recieve an interview eventually? or am i screwed = rejected???

Thanx!!

how many schools did you apply to? have you actually been rejected yet?

I personally don't think you need to panic...no news can definitely mean good news. Yes, people get accepted by now, but people also get rejected. It only means you're middle of the road if you don't hear anything. It's unpredictable.

My advice to you is to maybe update your file with more work, more grades, or maybe a letter of intent to a couple schools that are your top choice to let them know you are interested. Most important though - don't panic.

is it common practice to call admissions offices and ask "wtf"?

what is a reasonable time table to do so?

and what is all this letter writing stuff... am i missing out on something really important?

i have not called or written or done anything since my apps were complete... should i???

a couple of schools have informed me that they got all my stuff, so i basically thought i just had to sit around and wait for a decision.... but should i be more active in this process??????

thanks, bean

I've gotton few rejections already, so didn't feel too well after hearing those "hold" news. Im just wondering if people put on hold for an interview can actually be called for a interview later...
But yeah, updating the my file is a good idea, the only proble is that im out of school and doing a research fellowship thingy now, nothing new. I guess I should write a LOI, but what should I say really..."uhmmm, I really love this school, please give an interview, pretty please.." 🙂
gosh, this is certainly a good way to lose weight! stressssss

To clarify - I just think that you can write in case you're doing anything new that's, for instance, more clinically related, then that would at least be something to mention. The letter of intent is something I would only send to maybe your top 2 or 3 choices.

To the previous posting - it's not THAT big of a deal. It's only something that can help if it's written professionally, sincerely, and is supported by the notion that you've done your research on the school - that's all. It's not going to kill you if you don't do this though. Good luck guys.

Just to clarify your original question - you can always get an interview so long as you don't have a rejection. This hold thing only means you're borderline (which is better than simply not meeting their standards at all) and only means, yes, more waiting. Just remember - four more months in interview season - that's still a long time.

there are people here on sdn that do get off those preinterview hold lists and get an interview...so thats good news for you.

however on the flipside, there are many of us that dont. ive been put on hold for an interview at a couple of schools early on and its been a few months and i still have not heard back notifying me that i have gotten off the hold list.

its good to update them on what you have been up to if you have anything new to present them. a letter of interest would be nice to let them know that you are interested in their school and would love the opportunity to interview and have a chance to attend their school.

good luck dangirl.
