I know a bunch of people who've been accepted to Baylor have also been accepted to other schools. I thought I would pass on some info I learned about Baylor.

Re. the campus and students:
Highly recommended that you revisit the school on a non-interview day. You will get a more realistic view of the school and students, atmosphere, etc. I think Baylor's 2nd look day is late in March, so you may want to arrange a visit before then.

Re. financial aid:
Don't consider the intial offer as set in stone. Especially if you have a better offer of aid from another school. Call the financial aid office and see if you can negotiate your aid package!

feel free to pM me!

Thanks for the tips, TexasRose. I interviewed at Baylor and fell in love with the school the weekend I was there. I just got into UTSW also, so I might have a tough choice between the two ...

You and our fellow Baylor/UTSW folks are exactly the ones I'm thinking about!

These tips come from a med school contact, BTW.

Thanks, TexasRose...I'm one of those people on the fence about Baylor, too...although leaning towards not accepting their offer of admission...I haven't heard anything about financial aid yet, though...Baylor doesn't give merit scholarships, does it?

Thanks,

Doesn't baylor have grades (a,b,c...)?
I've asked this question before, but never got a reply. Anyone know?

Karen, you should check out Cornell

Harps: As far as I know, Baylor's first term is graded P/F, while all following terms are graded H/HP/P/MP/NP (honors/high pass/pass/marginal pass/fail). You can find out more info on the grading policy at http://www.bcm.tmc.edu/osa/handbook/grading_policy.html

Karen: Baylor does give merit scholarships. I don't know what the stats are as far as the amount of award or how many they give out, but this is from an info sheet they gave out at the interview: "In addition to need-based scholarships...the College of Medicine offers other scholarships that are not need-based. Awarding of these scholarships is based on academic, as well as subjective information provided in your application. All applicants are automatically under consideration for these scholarships which are awarded as early as possible."

Anyone who is on the fence about Baylor is welcome to give their spot to me! I would be oh so, so, so, so grateful for it!

Last year they did. I know a couple out-of-state MSTP applicants who were also given acceptances and partial merit scholarships by the MD program. One such person is there now in the MD program (changed their mind about MSTP), so I guess it works!

Thanks, Neuronix, that's good to know...although I know it must be very hard to get a scholarship...at least I know that it's a possibility.
