I messed up my grades last fall. Is it a good idea to retake some of the courses to improve my overall GPA at JHU. I believe my GPA for medical school will be recalculated based on average of the two grades (repeated).

Please advise how can I pull up my GPA. completed 48 credits and taking 15 credits this semester.

My grades so far:

Spring 2015 No GPA 15 credits

Spring 2016 3.85 ACCUM 3.85 14

Summer 2016 2.85 ACCUM 3.49 8

Fall 2016 1.73 ACCUM 2.90 11

What's the question? Whether to retake? Don't retake unless it was a failed prereq. Just do whatever you did for the 3.9 semester?

Thanks for your responses. It seems I should retake 2 courses (1 C- and 1 D) in order to get my GPA close 3.5

What is your advise on retaking the classes?

What went wrong the first time? Were you disorganized? Did your study methods not work?

I took all tough classes (15 credits) in fall 2016 and was struggling with the course load and activities. I waited till the last minute to withdraw from a course. In addition, I had an accident two weeks before my finals and was unable to properly study as I couldnt't use my right hand to use computer or write, etc. I made some bad decisions including not using the JHU resources to seek help.

It seems the best I can do is 3.3 or 3.4 unless I retake two courses and get an "A" in them. Any suggestion?

The best possible GPA should not be affected by retakes, MD schools just average the two grades as if you had taken another science class, rather than replacing the original grade.

You need to retake the C- and D no matter what though, because most MD schools require a C or above in all the prereq classes.

So retake those two, study like you did in the 3.8 semester, and hopefully this time no unfortunately timed injuries!
