The site I created with a searchable database of premedical applicants is a month old, and I thought I'd offer a quick update of the progress made in the first month.

The site currently indexes 183 profiles, with an average overall GPA of 3.62 and an average MCAT score of 31.6. These applicants applied to an average of 12.5 schools, were invited to an average of 5.3 interviews, and received an average of 1.7 acceptances. Since the launch of this site on January 9th, 2003, there have been 6,252 visitors and 24,740 searches performed.

My goal is to have 500+ profiles in the database by May, as sort of sufficient sample size to serve as a guide to folks preparing their applications for 2004 matriculation.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed, and don't forget to keep your profile updated as the acceptances roll in. 😎

Actually, here's a suggestion you might want to consider...

When one withdraws from a school, that person is listed as someone who didn't get in if you look at the school's profile, right?

I think that's kind of misleading. For example, a really strong applicant with a 39 and 3.9 gets into a top school and withdraws their application from 'backup' schools before they make their decisions (I know for a fact it happens, and I think it's a fair thing to do).
But, now, when you look under the 'backup' school's profile, that candidate is listed under 'applied, interviewed, not accepted', right? The main problem with this is the fact that now this school's average MCAT and GPA for the 'not accepted' applicants are artificially inflated.

Anyway, other than that, I love the site. Great job! Thanks!

The site is great and I have enjoyed it very much so far. But I get so depressed when I read other people's profiles (everyone seems to be awesome applicants) at the schools that I have interviewed at and will be interviewing at. But its great to know what I'm up against. Good job on the site...it looks great too.

That is true, the "Interviewed, Not Accepted" section of a School Profile will be slightly skewed upwards from that small subset of applicants. I'm not sure it's possible to really identify and exclude people who withdrew pending an "assured" acceptance, though.

The average applicant on the site does seem to be a fair bit above the average medical school applicant; hopefully more people will be celebrating their first acceptances in the near future and adding themselves as well to get a better distribution of profiles.

great site. there are a lot of people high stats in there. freaks me out man. but it's all good 🙂

Great site!

Thing is, as surge suggested, I am very confused by the withdrawal vs rejection question. I have noticed people with ridiculous stats/ECs getting rejected en masse and I dont know if that is because they withdrew or got rejected.

Any good way to tell?

As much as I like the site, it scares the crap outta me to see such qualified applicants getting rejected left and right. Great job though, keep it up!

I know what you mean solidgold, I am just hoping that it is more of a small sample size that is skewing the site

Indeed, it would be nice to have more profiles of the "average" applicant, because I have plenty of friends who are dedicated to the profession, outstanding people, who have unexceptional scores - and have been having less success than I feel they deserve.

I would love to see more of this type of applicant in my database, and I hope for the best for everyone still waiting. My best guess is that folks with the higher scores have been having better success early in the application process, and, since it is only February, many other applicants will realize success in their endeavours in the near future.

Thank you for all your feedback! I do carefully consider all your comments in the interests of making a more valuable tool for future applicants.

Agreed. I was granted 9 interviews, went to three, got accepted to one so far, and I prefer that one to some of the others I was granted interviews at, so I cancelled six interviews. And I may still cancel more!

is their any functiuonality to get a forgotten password - as i would update my file -

Thanks
