Still haven't heard anything back from the only veterinary school I applied to. My backup plan has kind of been to get my masters in Biomedical science, and I know that Iowa State and Colorado State both have one year programs. Are there any other schools that offer one year masters in biomedical science?

By back-up plan, do you mean instead of vet school? Or to improve your application before you apply again?

I would guess that OP means to improve their application before they apply again.

I had played with this idea before, and I also found the Certificate in Veterinary Medical Science through Drexel University.

Have you already taken into account the timeline for applying/being accepted into these one year programs compared to the timeline for vet school? If you have already passed the deadline for admission into these other programs, then you might have a year of doing nothing at all until you apply to vet school or the other programs again.

When I was considering this, I determined that I should have apply to a Master's program at the same time as I did vet school, in order to try and guarantee that I would be doing something in the gap year between when I apply to vet school and when I would hopefully matriculate.

I just looked into that certificate. This certificate requires 31 credits...you can get a masters degree elsewhere for the same amount of credits. I got a graduate certificate in clinical pathology for 12 credits and transferred all of my credits to the masters program.

what program are you in now that allowed you to do that?

Umass....they have LOTS of these programs. I chose the clinical pathology grad certificate and moved forward onto the masters program.
