It has been one year since the launch of MDapplicants.com, e.g. "Applicant Profiles" on SDN. The site indexes 1024 profiles, with an average overall GPA of 3.61, science GPA of 3.61, and MCAT score of 31.3. The average applicant is 23.7 years old, applied to 13.6 schools, was invited to 5.6 interviews, and received 2.3 acceptances. Since the launch of the site on January 9th, 2003, there have been 120,000 visitors, 450,000 searches performed, and 1.6 million pages served.

The site is intended as a resource for prospective premedical applicants, so I simply wanted to make a brief post one the one-year anniversary to remind another year's applicants of its existence. The site depends on ongoing support from the medical school community to grow in value, so please take a few minutes to add or update your profile as your application process winds down. Feedback is always welcome, and thank you to everyone who has contributed.

Fun tidbits from running statistics on the weblogs and the database:

4,447 pages a day were served last week.
Tuesday is the most popular day to browse the site.
The most visitors from .edu domains come from Harvard, Yale, and Columbia.
1.4 million pages have been served to Windows users; 59 pages have been served to OS/2 and 17 pages have been served to WebTV.
The most popular profiles for viewing are #s 922 (double the views of second place!), 483, 520, 206, and 176.
The most popular school summaries to view were Harvard (double the views of second place!), Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Yale, and Drexel.
California, New York, and Texas have the highest representation in profiles on the site.
Male profiles on the site outnumber female profiles by nearly 2 to 1.
Females have higher science GPAs (by .09) and overall GPAs (by .02) than the males.
Males score a full point higher than the females on the site on the MCAT.
The best MCAT section for males is Biological Sciences and the worst is Verbal.
The best MCAT section for females is also Biological Sciences, and the worst is Physical Sciences.

The list could go on....

Wow. I'm shocked 206 got in to all the schools she did.

She is "other" which probably means she is URM.

Yeah. I still don't quite believe it. Shocking

Yeah it sucks indeed to be white and have a penis. You better make sure grades and MCAT are top notch.

And before anyone flames me, this isn't a bash, just an observation. I see it happen quite often.

Hmm, I'm not getting a profile when I try for 483 😕

Hmm...true. It must have been some difficult-to-believe URM outlier that I deleted awhile back, but it was so popular it's still in the rankings.

This may be a really stupid question, but what exactly is a URM???? Just wondering, this acronym pops up a lot.

Thanks
