Hey guys, incoming M1.

I got a question and that's how exactly do you guys go about using it? I know how to use* it, but are you guys taking certain screen shots from web pages, recording specific lecture points, typing up notes, etc?

In undergrad I never really had the need for OneNote but I've heard M1s discuss using it. How necessary/beneficial is it for organization and retention?

Could anyone that uses it extensively might share a tip? =D

Thanks in advance

Not a med student. But onenote has an incredibly useful function where the professor can share notes with you so that everything written/shared will be automatically uploaded to your computer. It's incredibly powerful. All you need to do probably is give your professor an email address and install onenote. It's pretty simple.

I used it for all my notes. It syncs across my ipad, laptop, and pc desktop equally well. I primarily made the notes on my dual screen pc, typing and using screen shots from lectures/notes. If I wanted to crush the tests I would have reviewed the notes more often on my ipad/laptop and edited stuff, added annotations etc. But a quick note for each lecture worked fine. Could review a lecture with key points in about 1-5 minutes depending on the detail.

Highly functional, great for constant review, definitely recommend.

I absolutely love OneNote. You can "pronto your ppts into a note and take notes beside/underneath the slides just like if you had printed it out. I especially like the add-on Onetastic-it allows you to resize slides to different % (among many other things) which is helpful because I don't have to use like a size 20 font.

If you have specific questions about how to use it, PM me and I can give you lots of tips/tricks

Don't know how I would do med school without onenote. Print power points into onenote, take notes on side and add screenshots of relevant pictures, etc to clarify material. Go to options to have printouts print as one section, have folders by subject and I had notebooks by each quarter/block.

I insert the powerpoint into one note and then write short notes besides the slides or insert some other useful image next to it. I wonder if it's more versatile on a tablet being able to write stuff on the slide with a stylus. That would be nice.

I have a ThinkPad tablet (X230T) that I bought for this purpose. It was insanely helpful in anatomy and histology. I also use it in other classes, depending on the professor and how much I need to actually write down (vs just highlighting/underlining).

Maybe I'm getting old, but I never got the hang of onenote. We don't really have much of a use for it on the clincial side, and I tried using it as a case log etc, but gave up after a couple of months

Necro'd this thread to see if anyone knew how to use the MS Word auto-correct dictionary in OneNote. I started using OneNote recently and noticed it doesn't auto-correct as much as it does in Word. I'd prefer not having to rebuild the dictionary all over again, so I'm hoping one of you beauties can help me out.

Cheers!

I've added a lot of terms in OneNote and they have automatically transferred to Word and vice versa.
