Hello everyone,

I'm a transfer student majoring in Biochemistry at the University of California, and I plan to apply to dental school in 2026.

During the pandemic, I had to take some courses online because my community college was slower to return to in-person instruction compared to four-year universities. As a result, I took Physics 101, English 101, English 102, and Psychology 1 online—the only format available at the time.

I'm aware that many dental schools have policies against accepting online prerequisite courses, so I initially intended to specify the mode of instruction on my application. However, I later realized there’s no option to select this on ADEA application, and my transcript doesn’t show whether the classes were taken online or in person.

This makes me wonder:
Will there be a point in the process where I’ll need to explain whether these courses were taken online or in person?
Or is it okay to simply apply without mentioning it unless specifically asked?

To be safe, I recently re-enrolled in an in-person Psychology course. But retaking Physics or English in person feels a bit unreasonable. I'm currently studying Biochemistry and have already completed higher-level courses, such as thermodynamics and Physical Chemistry. Retaking introductory Physics or English wouldn't add any value to my education or preparation for dental school.

a lot of schools, if you dig a little bit on their admissions pages, generally still have a brief note regarding classes taken during covid and online instruction, otherwise they state it on their aadsas app page.

They should be fine. Do a little digging to confirm this, however, but I'd imagine you should be counted.

Most schools understand that courses taken in Spring to Fall 2020 were under unusual circumstances (online, P/F grading options), and return to campus varied by the time Fall 2021 came around. Ask the admissions teams for the specific exceptions or expectations about online courses taken during that time. Most are generally understanding.
