Ok everyone. I purchased access to MSAR. So what I have really come to learn is nobody truly knows about taking prereqs online, specifically from UNE, and what MD schools accept these courses. I have emailed several MD admissions offices to ask specifically if they accept these courses and they all said yes as long as it's from an accredited school (UNE is). However, on MSAR all of these schools have red X's under the "Online?" section on MSAR. This is kind of frustrating haha.

I mean the thing is on the transcript these courses appear no different. In order for an app to be ruled out based on prereqs being taken online from UNE, the adcom would have to arbitrarily decide these courses were taken online, and then make the choice of "We don't accept online courework." I even looked at the undergraduate counterparts of some MD schools and their transfer equivalency. For example, the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University (I wouldn't be applying here anyway as I'm not an in-state resident) has listed their undergraduate transfer equivalents from UNE and the course numbers are the exact same course numbers as their online prereqs.

Does anyone have anything to add to this?

Gaaah. I agree, super frustrating! I don't have anything to add outside of what I mentioned in your other thread.

Good luck!

I think its a good idea to ask school directly.

With my situation, I'm looking at one school in the future. So far, their website does not say "Online Premed Not Accepted"

My guess is, they look at entire package, grades, volunteer experience, MCAT, interviews.

Generally unwise to apply to only 1 school.

As OP is very early in the game, without knowing postbac grades or MCAT score, it's nearly impossible to know which set of ~25 MD programs they'd want to apply to, so exceedingly difficult to contact them.

MSAR is the way to go! But, as discussed above, not super clear what's what in all of this.

Well, of course I'll eventually apply to more than one school.

If the course numbers and titles are the same on the transcript as the in person courses, then they'll never know.

A big disadvantage of taking a lot of online presreqs, (not the social sciences but hard sciences) is not interacting in person/directly with the professor or TA in order to try to obtain LORs.

Yeah I agree in person is ideal. It’s just that for some non trades it’s literally not an option. There is one university within an hour from me and they don’t offer night science classes. It stinks. Thankfully I have superiors at work who are willing to write LORs for me, as well as a close professor from undergrad back several years ago.

I would recommend asking each med school that you are interested in if they will accept a particular course. (For example, will you accept Physics 123 from ABC College?) If they say yes, then great. If they say no, then follow it up with questions as to why. The med school may say we don't accept Physics 123 from ABC College since the final exam is not proctored. Then contact the Physics instructor at ABC College and ask if you can take the final exam proctored. Some faculty (including myself) would definitely make changes in order to make the course suitable to a particular med school. After all, we are here to help students succeed.

I hope this gives you some insight in how to approach the situation.

I'm taking a hybrid Organic Chemistry class at a community college (lecture is online/lab is in person). My professor told me that schools have requested her syllabus in the past to assess the class and determine if they would accept the course or not. She said she's never had any medical schools turn her class down. This might be different for the all-online classes, but I figured I would just throw this out there! It is definitely frustrating.
