I am Korean, and my mcat is 29, cgpa3.65 sgpa3.8. Took a gap year to hang out with my grandpa who had stomache cancer but recovered and to live with my cousin who suffers from massive bi polar and social anxiety to teach him health habits and study habits.
I have an insane upward trend. Messed up pretty bad freshman year, even got an IA for plagiarizing my second quarter and failed english, and in addition to that quarter got kicked out of school for failing all my other classes.
PS - wrote about single parent mom/cancer survivor/polio.
Great LOR 1 P.I., 1 science, 1 humanites, 1 D.O.
120hours of clinical and 36 hours of shadowing
1080 hours of research.
208 hours as a supplementary instructor for gchem and biology.
85 hours of nonclinicals.
320hours of humanites research
I went to UCR.
I finished applying to 12 D.O. schools today.
I live in California.

Goro's list:

U Rochester
Temple
Jefferson
Drexel
TCMC
Quinnipiac
U Cent FL
FAU

NYMC
VCU
U AZ-T
U AZ-P
U VM

I don't know if I should add:
Pennsylvania
Uniformed Services
University of Washington
Univeristy of Nevada
West Virginia University
Loyola
University of Missouri-Kansas
Oakland University William Beaumont
Howard University
Indiana University
Maybe University of Rochestor there avg mcat is 34 and lowest is 29....

Thank you SDN!!! This site is health!

No to Washington unless you are from a WWAMI state.
No to Uniformed Services unless you really want to serve in the military. I figure if you wanted to serve, you would already have it on your list.
Direct from UPenn's website: "The range of the 2014 class was GPA: 3.31-4.00 MCAT 31-43"
Make sure you fit Howard's mission with URM's.

The only schools from your "maybe add" list you should add are Loyola, West Virginia, and Oakland. Rochester is a stretch but you could maybe apply there if you want.

The rest either take too few OOS applicants or only take OOS from specific states that aren't CA (UW, IU, Nevada, Mizzou), or are quite a reach for your stats (Penn). For instance, I am from the midwest and applied to IU OOS with a 3.7/31. I was rejected pre-secondary before they had even received my committee letter. Penn's average MCAT is up to 38 now.

Only apply to Howard if you have significant ties to the African American community.

Only apply to USUHS if you are confident about and excited about joining the military and making it an integral part of your medical career.

are you sure you have a 3.65? this seems unlikely if you have failed several classes. AMCAS does not replace failing grades

of the maybes, loyola and oakland sound good. otherwise i like goro's list

With an MCAT of 29, it would be foolish to apply to these schools, except:

West Virginia University
Loyola
Oakland University William Beaumont

The plagiarism incident will be problematic.

Delete U Central FL, FIU and FAU from my original list, unless you live in FL.

don't apply to Nevada unless you live here. They accept like 3 OOS.

Lol I was kidding. I meant that since he already had a @Goro list that you are the last person he'd want to comment again 😛

Your stats are very similar to mine. I will be using this list. The IA might really hurt you though. Hopefully, we will get into D.O. schools!

How can your GPAs be so high when you "failed an English course and then got kicked out of school for failing all my other courses"? Something doesn't seem right. And then there is the plagiarism issue... Before you apply anyplace you need to recheck your GPAs.

I retook those courses and got A,B,A. and then got massive amounts of A's. and those courses that I failed except one was not science gpas.

Retakes don't make the first grade disappear. Both go down and both are factored into the AMCAS GPA
