Hello all,

I was wondering what the OOS acceptance was to state schools and private schools. Specifically, I was looking at MSUCOM. I'm a GA resident, and I have a 508 MCAT, sGPA 4.0, cGPA 3.99. My ECs aren't great, but not absolutely terrible.

I know they prefer instate, but should I even bother submitting the secondary if they won't consider my application highly?

With those stats I don't see why not. I'm a FL resident though.

OOS tuition at msu is like 80k/year. Not worth it unless you have hpsp.

Apply TCOM. You can't beat tuition. $12,300/year1. I heard oos students somehow qualify for our tuition. Year 2,3, are under $10k/year.
It's worth a shot, anyways.

If you like the school, definitely apply! Your stats are also above average, so you'll make the cut as a competitive OOS applicant. Just keep in mind that for state schools, around 90% of the matriculate class must be in-state applicants; this leaves only about 10-15 seats for OOS applicants. The chances aren't great, but who's to say that one of those 10-15 spots can't be yours?

Good luck!

There is a waiver for it. I didn't know this before. It doesn't hurt to apply.
Wish I'd known that back when I was applying. What are the stipulations? I just remember something for Canadians.

Are the odds as bad for OOS at TCOM as the rest of the Texas schools? I was debating on filling out TMDSA only for TCOM. low GPA ~3.3 with 512 mcat

The avg gpa is ~3.6 avg MCAT 505.
Only a maximum of 10% seats go to oos. You have to make that call. On my interview was a guy from UCSD. I didn't ask his stats. 🙂

Can't hurt to try. The only school I don't recommend applying to OOS is Ohio because they accept so very few (like 2% of their class every year is OOS).

You never know what will happen. I have a friend that will be starting at TCOM in a few weeks and he has a very average app and stats, very personable though so he probably nailed his interview. I would apply simply because that tuition would be a dream.
