So ive been hearing a lot about how Florida dental schools are unfriendly to students outside Florida, i wanted to hear from people who either attend a Florida school or have been accepted to one as a OOS.

I've been trying to think of ways i can improve my application because my heart is bent sent on going in Florida. I'm a international student (Canada) and my numbers are cGPA 2.95 (no fails, just many B-'s & C's) sGPA 3.85 (Not at CC, at a uni). No DAT yet but scoring good so far.

Any advice on what i can do to improve or feedback from Florida dental school experience would be helpful!

P.S my girlfriend is doing optometry in florida (main reason to wanting to go there, and weather 😛), would us tieing the knot make me a Florida resident and therefore not be out-of-state applicant?

UF had 1500 applicants accepted 90 and 5 were out of state. So yeah they aren't OOS friendly. LECOM had roughly 2800 applicants. Accepted 100 62% were OOS. Nova I have no idea about stats. The reason I know the facts about the other two is I went to both open houses and this was what they provided. Hope that gives you some idea.

As for tying the knot.. If applying this cycle no... Most schools require you physically live in state and show proof for over a year before applying.

I wouldn't bother applying to UF in your case (sorry don't mean to be harsh at all, I'm just saying that because they accept VERY few OOS applicants and with a much higher cGPA than yours).

Nova & LECOM are maybes. They accept a fair amount OOS, Nova likes really high numbers and to be honest with you, I'm not sure they'd look at your app because of your cGPA again. LECOM may consider your app, depending on what your get on your DAT or what other EC's you may have.

Best of luck! :luck:

Yeah i've been reading up on UF and they seem to hate OOS/internationals.

Is cGPA really weighted that much that they would outright discard my app even though i have a great science GPA? I've read that science is weighted far heavier than regular gpa.

I am also untraditional so I took my pre-reqs after graduating undergrad. Would that help my case?

If you raise that overall GPA and score well on the DAT I think you could have a decent chance at LECOM and Nova, maybe at UF. I was accepted to UF this past year from out of state with 3.6 overall and science GPA, and 23 AA on DAT to give you some insight.
