I will be attending an "Open House" this weekend at my number one choice for DPT school. I'm not usually hung up on such things but this is SO important to me.... It's funny but I'm not sure what to wear (I'm female). I'm sure all attendees will be scrutinized to some degree, how can I stand out positively? Leave a good impression? Is it appropriate at this early juncture to discuss financing with them and securing a huge scholarship? Just kidding on that last one - but there's truth in jest... Anyway - if anyone has attended one of these things, just let me know what to expect, that would be much appreciated. BTW - I'm going to stand out automatically just by the fact that I'm "non traditional" as they say here in these forums. This means I'm 38 years old. I'm very spunky though.

Dress professionally like you would for an interview. Make polite conversation. You will probably have more in common with the faculty than you will with the other hopefuls. Tasteful skirt or slacks. No cleavage, no belly button etc . . . Wear what you are comfortable in but think conservative rather than flambouyant. My 2 cents.

Have you seen the classic "Heartbreak Ridge"?
I would suggest you follow the recruits method - and identify the shirt your future instructor is wearing - then simply change into that prior to starting the open house.

I volunteer at a PT clinic - the normal attire that I see for females (and males) is slacks and button up shirt. The attire normally has a somewhat athletic component to it but is still classy. I'm a guy - this is my best way of describing.. it's like REI and JC Penney had an affair - and their love child was the proper dress code....

Ha - I said I was spunky not slutty! I was more looking for level of "formalness" rather than stylistically how to look presentable. I do appreciate your response and your assistance though - thank you.

For anyone who may read this thread in the future, I just returned from the Open House and it was a lot less formal than a job interview. Business casual would have been too over dressed in my opinion. Most female attendees wore an everyday type skirt or even shorts and flip flops. I didn't see anyone wearing black slacks and blouses with heels or boots. Males mostly just wore khaki pants and a short sleeve knit shirt.

I'd also like to mention that I was surprised at the quality of this event - I feel like I gained valuable insight into the program and the way it's run and who's in it. It became more than just a school I had researched on paper. It also helped me come up with questions to ask at other schools. Of course I got face time with dir of admissions etc, too. All in all, time well spent.

he he - good to hear it went well~ I don't think i was trying to imply any slutty comments....sorry if I did - glad it went well and found your feedback quasi-useful, unlike my random comments that I had presented you....
good luck~
