Does anyone know if it helps your chances of being accepted to attend an open house? some of my schools have open houses in the fall (I've already submitted the application) but they are out of state, so not super convenient for me to go. However, I would consider going if I knew that having my name and my face there might help me.

One school I applied to had open houses, and since they were only two hours away from me, they said they expected me to be there. So I assume, the opposite of this would also be true: they don't expect you to attend if you live far away. However, like you said, the school knowing your name and face would always be a plus. If you can't go, find other ways to show your interest.

I do not think it will increase your chances. Schools look at your stats. You can mention you attended their open house in the part of your application where they ask why you chose their school, but I am sure they will not consider that when making decision whether or not to accept you. Definitely not worth spending money going to an open house out of state! They just give you a tour there and market their program... I attended a couple of them during my interviews and for me personally it was the waste of 30 minutes 🙂.
