Hello I wanted to let anyone interested in PM&R that there is an open position in the Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center PM&R program starting this July '08. The resident who matched has a family emergency and cannot make it this year

The program coordinator's name is Colleen Sturr and the phone number is 313-745-9880. The person applying should have already done his preliminary year and have his steps 1-3 (at least 1, 2CS and 2CK)

I am a PGY3 at this program, if any questions feel free to contact me via email. [email protected].

thanks!

mansomar,
i'm happy where i am at LSU but tell everyone else a little bit about your program...the basics. call schedule, salary, benefits (health, AAPMR dues, book/educational stipend, etc.), rotation hours, inpt patient load, home vs. in-house call, vacation weeks, etc.
i think more people will be likely to contact you if they already know a bit first.
good luck. we had that problem with one of our new pgy2's but got lucky that a local anesthesia resident wanted to switch to PMR.

dc2md you are right, I left out the basics.

1. call schedule: This may seem as a negative since it is in-house calls, but read not it's not too bad. PGY2's are on call 3 times a month; PGY3's twice a month and as PGY4's only once, this includes no Fridays and no weekends as a senior.

2. salary: around 46K a year and it goes up about 1k a year.

3. health care: you can choose b/w a PPOM that is 50 bucks a pay period, but you get to choose your own physician, or get the hospitals own health plan for 12$ a pay period, but only see the hospital's own doctors.

4. book stipend is 200 dollars a year, you can buy books at amazon, ebay and get reimbursed too.

5.conferences: every senior gets $1500 for the AAPMR conference, if you are pgy2 or 3 and have a poster at AAPMR or other conference I understand that you get the $1500 too.

6. 15 days of paid vacation.

7. Most rotations are 8 to 5 with minimal exceptions due to late admits etc.

Hopefully I covered some questions, feel free to reply with any other.
