Match day is in less than a week, and I have not received interviews from several schools. Would it be advisable to send a request for an open records now so it will give me a little bit of time to prepare the nice application cycle? Will it hurt my chances in the next application cycle if I do request the records? Also, what do you write to say to request for the information?

What do you mean by open records?

As for interviews, all Texas schools that participate in TMDSAS (which is every school but Baylor) is done with interviews for this application cycle. They stopped interviewing before the Jan 10th deadline for students to rank the schools for the match.

What's an "open records" request? Where you ask to look at all their notes and thoughts on you? Never heard of the Texas schools being willing to do that. At least one even explicitly states that basically they are unable to provide any information to applicants about such things so don't even ask.

I read about it in one of the texas school's discussion last year. It may have been in A&M where people were discussing about requesting that information. I heard it was supposed to contain information about their comments about you. I just wanted to see if it was possible to request it so I can prepare for the next application cycle.

Since most Texas med schools are public institutions, you can request all documents regarding your file through a freedom of information petition to the state attorney general. Some applicants in the past apparently been successful in getting their entire files, including interviewer comments and scoring sheets, from the schools.

OP, I don't think you'll be successful, because the schools will get their legal teams involved to block your petition, which is what happened after a few initial successful requests last year. You may get blackballed for trying in the first place. I wouldn't risk it.

Nothing says "that guy" like filing to get access to your personal files for medical school admissions.
