I know there's USNews, but Ophthalmology Times hasn't put out any rankings recently. Is there a consensus of what the top 30 programs are? Anyone have a list or opinions to share? It would help especially since now we're almost getting to half way done!

Thanks for the link, seemed like there was some good discussion. Would you be able to add on another 10 to make it a Top 30? I know it's like pulling teeth, but it would be helpful!

I'm not sure how knowing 8-9 other "top" programs would really be helpful. It depends on what you want to do with your life and what you are looking for in a program.

I would say that most of the ophtho programs in the US are good. Almost every one of them have pride in what they do, and while rankings are helpful to a certain extent, it could be offensive/insulting to some.

Try to make it to all the interviews that you can and get as much info from each interview. Write down your impressions after each one (otherwise you could easily forget and rely on highly subjective rankings to make your rank list). If you run into scheduling conflicts, you could create a thread or search for similar threads in the past to get more input then.

So I got curious and looked for these US news rankings on google. Besides the most updated link for this past year, there was a link for the US news "rankings" from 2012-2013 saved by another site:

http://allrankings.org/health/us-best-hospitals/000048.htm

The question is why are there so many in 2012-2013!!! and why was this extended version not done for 2014. I guess ophthalmology rankings by US news are unique because they are largely based on reputation and not statistical data. Did the schools from 35-97 lose their reputation because research etc was low? You also have to wonder how schools like UAB, Henry Ford, SLU and Colorado now have "no" reputation even though when I was applying this year those were schools I heard attendings and residents mention quite often. Maybe it is because in all these regions there is an overshadowing school (Emory, Kresge, Wash U, Utah)?
