I'm an IMG, already done ophtho residency in my country, will be doing fellowship in one of the top tier programs. Have published research in journal in my country. Step 1 score 90, step 2 86.
What are my chances of getting into a residency program?

I feel like this question in some form or another gets asked a lot on this forum. It is really tough to say, since FMG's are facing an uphill battle as it is just having someone look at their application. Those are solid boards for most residencies but ophtho is a different bug and, well, there are more than enough ophtho programs that would see a 90 and 86 and might rule out a candidate right then and there, even if that person were a US senior.
So I guess that's the bad news. The good news is that programs are all different and looking for different things. You never know what they'll like about your app. Some programs it seems like FMG's who have done home ophtho residencies and have been attendings and have published, they are like junior attendings during their three years and often add a lot to the other residents.
I guess the question they would want to know is how many publications, where published, your experience. When are you applying? For this year?
I've published 3 articles but only in local journals. I've done a fellowship here and will be doing a fellowship in the US. Planning to apply next year. Thanks for your reply.🙂
