hello....
thanks to my friend, i was introduced to this informative and occasionally entertaining site.
i wanted to ask a question about taking classes over that i have gotten Cs in.

i have already graduated Berkeley and i got a couple Cs in my biochem and math classes but i unfortunately havent had the time to retake them due to my family situation. starting from the senior year of high school i have been fully responsible for taking care of my family financially, which is difficult for those of you who also go through this.

i have an overall GPA of approx 3.4 and a science GPA around 3.18 and i was wondering if retaking them at a school near me is the right option or if trying to explain these grades in the personal statement would be alright as well....

once again i appreciate you guys' help and opinions.......

When I asked an adcom member at Mt. Sinai about this he suggested that I take an upper level/graduate chem course (or biochem/math in your case) instead of retaking the lower level class. Getting an A in a higher course would prove that you know the basics, plus you would learn something new. Maybe you could take one course at a time while working. Good luck jlee, I'm sure your hard work will pay off!🙂

That's good advice. Maybe I should have done that instead of retakin so many courses 🙁

Don't worry agent, I've been following your story. You'll be okay. Good luck at the new U this year!

follow klp's advice - take a higher level course to prove your mettle - it will be more impressive and more convincing and, hopefully, more interesting. I wouldn't waste valuable space in the personal statement drawing attention to a couple of C grades but thats just me. If adcoms are truly worried about it they will ask about it in interviews.

thanks alot for your responses 😉
