Hi all,

I've just finished my sophomore year of undergraduate, and am starting to look into medical schools that I would be interested in applying to. I just found out that my college, in the last 3 months, started a early acceptance program with LECOM. I am very on the fence about this program. I feel that in a world where things are often made so difficult, why not take the advantages you can get when you can? I feel confident in my candidacy (3.9 GPA, consistent volunteer work at hospitals and other organizations, experience in research labs, extracurriculars, etc), but I know that there are many many good candidates.

I'm wondering if anyone has any insight on the LECOM program. I've been very put off by the plethora of negative postings about it, but I have noticed that many of the postings are older- 2009-2014, and I want to know if there has been any change. Anyone in the program who likes the program or dislikes the program?

Any insight as to whether it would be better to to apply for the EAP, or take my chances applying the regular way? I hate for this to be a "what are my chances" kind of question, but just trying to decide whether to play it safe with the LECOM program (if in fact its a good program), or to take the risk of applying elsewhere.

I am scheduled to take the MCAT this August, and plan to apply next June, so I am NOT taking a year off in between undergraduate and medical school, as many do. Not sure if thats relevant but putting it out there.

I should add I have a time constraint- the application must be submitted this summer before my junior year to be considered.

If u have a 3.9, I would try and ace the mcat. U can get into MD schools with a solid mcat score coupled with a 3.9.

As for LECOM, they get a really bad wrap. When I interviewed there, I absolutely loved it.

LECOM doesn't have a bad rep I think. They're actually pretty awesome! They set up a good chunk of residencies in almost every field and do well overall.

Complains about LECOM could, at least somewhat, be attributed to its location. Super cold area. That and some problems with rotations I heard at the brandeton (or seton hill?) campus.

I will be attending LECOM-B in the fall, I got 10 interviews this cycle, and chose this place, out of all my acceptances. Great location, Great board scores, Awesome cirrculum (PBL- fits my personality), and Cheap! Too me: Cost, Curriculum, and Location are the most important. Rotations are as well, but I heard they are making changes, and regardless, I am willing to take chance. I would def apply there, their match list is great too! I also had a 3.8+ gpa!

Yes, Erie is cold and it snows or rains everyday. I had a great time at the school. It was close knit and felt like family to me. The professors know you by first name. They try very hard to make sure you succeed. It is regimented in a military way in some aspects but that can be a good thing to create a professional group.

I'm in the LECOM early acceptance. No MCAT. No application fee. Seat saved till I get there. Probably the best decision I've ever made. I'm taking the GRE in the summer since I have time because I don't have to take the MCAT. Then I can choose to go to grad school or med school. I have a 3.8 and good extracurriculars. Yeah, I could go somewhere else, but it made my life less stressful and I'm not obsessed with how prestigous my future school is anyway.
