I know it's a little late, and interview season is over, but as a CA-1 at Maimo I'd like to say a few things. Also this post is VERY outdated so I want to update a lot of the info. First, I would refer you to my post on this forum or on scutwork for most of the information.
Second, to address some of the specific issues that were raised:
1) In addition to OB, we do a tremendous amount of cardiac, neuro, and peds.
2) We go to Mount Sinai for our transplant rotation
3) We have a full 5 year accredidation
4) Yes, we don't have any major trauma, but given the volume, acuity, diversity, and urgency of many of our cases it doesn't seem like a huge loss
5) The past year of grads had about a 70% board pass rate, but prior to that class the pass rate was over 90%.
I'd be curious to know why people have such a negative attitude about the program. I personally think it is a gold mine for big cases, great teaching, and becoming very adept at being a perioperative physician. Ultimately you want to go to a place where you think you will get the best training and come out on the other side as well prepared for anything as possible. I think Maimo does that, but I'm curious to hear what others have to say.
