As someone who got in with a science GPA below 3.0, I understand your concern...
I was told that any science classes (bio/chem/physics) you take would be considered part of you science GPA, even if they are not required classes.
I have a degree, and I believe that it is fast becoming a trend to accept more students that have completed a degree.
I don't know about retaking classes. Alot of it depends on what schools you apply to. Some will replace your old grade with your new one of you retake it, some will just average the two grades.
Hope this helps.

I don't mean to be pessimistic, but retake some of those classes. If schools see that you are trying to improve, it looks really good. I had some Bs in science classes, and I retook them and got As. I am confident that it's one of the things that helped me get in.

hmm i will consider retaking it. my university has a policy that if u didn't fail the class.. u'r not allow to retake it.. and if u do it won't count toward the gpa... something like that. i didn't fail it but i did get a C in both orgo 1 and gen chem 1. if they do allow me however, should i take orgo or gen . chem? i can only take one because i need to take some bio classes for that darn degree...

any help is great!

thanx to the above for responding!

I would retake orgo. And, just because your school doesn't count it into your gpa, that doesn't mean that pharm schools won't see the improvement. They look at each grade individually. They don't care what your current school's policy is.

I had C's also in O-chem I and II, among several other C's... anyway. I think that my having a degree in Biology helped my getting an acceptance. However, I think it depends on the school you are applying to, the school you completed your pre-req's at, and on the actual applicant--- what kind of experience you have, etc... good luck! 🙂
