We ain't dead yet! In fact, as TrumpsMom ponts out, an entirely new set of forum software - MORE SECURE - is being loaded & tested this weekend. Also, it appears that most of our data is OK & it is the config.sys files (what ever those are???) that were hacked.

Anyhow, we hope to be up & running full force by the end of the week. We really need to be back on line asour 2006 Conference & Workshops is right around the corner & it is crunch time for us.

I still want to meet the dirty bastards that hacked us!!!

Can you enlighten the newbie. What is this OPM thingy you speak of? 😕

For Old Man Dave, et. al.:

CONFIG.SYS is a text file containing DOS (Disk Operating System) commands that tell the operating system how the computer is initially set up. More specifically, CONFIG.SYS commands specify memory device drivers and programs that control hardware devices; enable or disable system features; and set limits on system resources. CONFIG.SYS loads at startup before the autoexec.bat (automatic execute.batch program) file. Because CONFIG.SYS is a text file, it is editable in any text-editing program. (from whatis.com)

That said, the config.sys is a major component of the operating system. I've had a config.sys infection in the past, and it's not a pretty situation. It can be fixed, but boy it can take a while to do so.

I too share your desire to smack the bastards that hacked the site.

Hi there,
And just in case you want a live experience of OPM. See this thread OPM Convention about our upcoming convention in Washington, DC. You can get thousands of dollars worth of info and enjoy the Capitol City at the same time. In addition, Iserson who is the author of Getting into Medical school and Getting into Residency is the keynote speaker. Good stuff here and fun folks.

Thanks for the info - I am a true computer ******! And, I honestly have no desire to get beyond the "it's a magical black-box that sits under my desk" stage. LOL< when I rec'd my newest desktop, I decided I would be brave & look inside. I removed every stinking screw I could find, but the cover was no more loose or open-able than it was with all of the damned screws in place. I figure that some higher-power was telling me that I had no business inside & to leave it the hell alone!

I listened!

The OPM Conference was something I really wanted to go to, but unfortunately I can't get away during that time. 🙁 Is there any way to purchase an outline/rundown/summary of the presentations? I just feel like I'm going to be missing so much useful information.

Hi there,
We will not be offering summaries of the presentation but there WILL be a conference next year. Also, SDN is planning a great conference too (more info to come) so you while you may miss this year's event, it looks like there is going to be loads of stuff next year.

njbmd 🙂

Also just a comment, I have not liked SDN for sometime due to the rude posters in the other areas. If I posted that I was in the Caribbean then I would get, well, very unprofessional behavior in the other posts at times. I'm finding this area to be one of the best ( maybe cause most of my fellow OPM post here too) it is Civil and a pleasure to post and interact here. 👍
