I have an optho rotation starting soon, and was wondering what would be a good introductory book on opthalmology? I am not going into optho, but still need to learn enough not to look clueless on my rotation. 🙂 thanks!

The American Academy of Ophthalmology publishes a book called "Basic Ophthalmology."

It's an easy read and perfect for non-ophtho students.

Hope you enjoy your rotation!

I highly recommend the book clinical ophtho made ridiculously simple. The book even includes a great CD with videos of cataract surgery and essentially a small ophthalmology atlas on it. And if that isn't good enough the book is only like 20 bucks. I would never buy basic ophthalmology as basically every program I did an away rotation at tried to give me the book to read and it will have no value to you when you go into ophtho. However, it is a great book that you should read, but in my opinion not worth your student loan cash. Good luck this is an awesome field, I have no regrets.

I just reread your post, I guess if you aren't going into ophtho my advice is not as useful, but I still wouldn't buy the book. At most check it out from the library, it is a quick read.

Yeah so basically what I said...
