Hi!
So something that's important for any pre-health career is experience. When I was a pre-optometry student, it was really hard to find practices that let me expand in my skill. I was very lucky to find such a company. I worked for a private company that is the vision provider for children from pre-k to high school students in Chicago Public Schools.
We have about 4-5 small teams of optometrists and techs/opticians that go out to different schools each day and provide the students at those schools with eye exams and glasses at no cost to them. And the company is hiring! They have paid PT and FT positions, and they are willing to train the right individuals. It's a wonderful opportunity for pre-optometry students or any pre-health student to get more experience with field work. It's a very dynamic work environment that requires patience to deal with children and schedule changes, energy, and punctuality. But it's very rewarding. Perfect for a pre-optometry student or college graduate taking some time off after college. Looks very good on applications. A car is absolutely necessary! A usual day begins 7-8 AM in the morning and goes till about 2-5 pm. Please spread the word, and do reply if interested! And note, this job may only be feasible for those that live in the Chicago area. For others, it may be too far to commute everyday since CPS schools span in every direction!
