Hi so currently I'm a 3rd year and I'm going to postpone matching a year so that I can do couples match. I was curious if there's other people who did the same thing as I have tried to ask my academic adviser and he didn't really know much nor did anyone else I could try asking. My school offers a MSHE (master of heath education) which I'm interested in, but it's a 2 year program (which the coordinator said could be done in 1 year but I'm not sure about that when I've looked at the classes). There's no MPH program.

I suppose I should just write stuff I can do and just listen to anones advice
1. Transitional year (I plan to do family practice or IM. My grades are crap, but my boards are good)
2. MSHE
3. Teach at my school
4. Research

I'm just wondering how waiting a year will affect my residency since I don't want to look like I didn't math and I want to make it CLEAR of what I'm doing. Also have any of you broken up your 4th year in half so that you get a 5th year to do your audition rotations? I have no idea what to do and I've been trying to ask people for the longest time.

Those are all good ideas (although I'm not sure what you're qualified to teach at your school...I suppose you could TA anatomy or something like that). My one suggestion would be that, with the exception of the TY (which, assuming you're not talking about an osteopathic TRI, is a really tough match BTW...very competitive), that you do it between your 3rd and 4th years. That way you won't have a post-graduation year that you have to explain to anyone. If you can score a research fellowship for that year, that's probably the best option.

Oh wow I never considered a research fellowship. Looks like it's time to go into researching that 😀 Thanks for the suggestion!
Yeah all of those options don't seem to be that good of a solution and I don't really know what else to do.

This is a not uncommon problem. The solution is usually a research year between 3rd and 4th, an MPH year, or splitting your 4th year -- some schools allow you to extend your 4th year into 2 years, without charging you more tuition.
