ST. MARY'S, Ohio -- An area optometrist has been arrested and charged with raping a 69-year-old woman.
Dr. Douglas Wine was taken into custody Tuesday and placed in Auglaize County Jail after authorities completed a three-month investigation. The alleged victim said she was raped by Wine while visiting his home in St. Mary’s, according to police.
Wine runs two optometry offices in the St. Mary’s area, where residents were surprised by the news.
“I don't know what to think about it to be honest because I think it's horrible when somebody does that to a woman that age,” Agnes Schmerge told News Center 7’s Kathryn Burcham.
Authorities haven’t released any details about the case and wouldn’t comment further.

I watched the vid. Patients said they wouldn't see Dr. Wine anymore because of his charges. But if he has a Felony (Rape) on his record would he even be able to practice?

A charge is not a conviction. I agree, he might get a slap on the wrist. But if he is found guilty because of, or independent of, whether he pleads guilty then yea, he might not be able to practice. But perhaps only in that state, I don't know the details.

The positive of this case:

1) He was addressed as "Doctor"
2) The woman acknowledged that the eye doctor takes care of her and her 88y/o father for "everything".

I doubt a slap on the wrist with a felony rape charge, that's pretty serious.

In most, if not all, states a felony will result in license suspension/revocation.

His career will be over in Ohio.

Pack up and move west, young man.😎
